Principal DevOps Developer

Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will analyze and integrate external customer specifications. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture. Build new products and development tools. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering to discuss major changes to functionality.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.

About the Application Ecosystem Engineering Team
Opower's cloud software is made of microservices, batch processing systems, and data warehouses to operate our products to our utility partners and their customers. Our team provides the services and tools required for teams to develop and operate their applications within these environments. Our team is currently leading the charge to move these applications to run in Docker using Nomad. Our team supports infrastructure for service registration and discovery, authentication services, secure storage and access of credentials and batch processing compute resources. We use a mix of Java and Ruby along with tools such as Dropwizard, Chef, MySQL, Nginx, and Vault to achieve these goals and provide the services our users require to be successful.
Responsibilities
Our senior engineers lead by example and drive our organization s progress in a variety of ways, with responsibilities including:
Teaching more junior engineers about best practices through forums, design
meetings, code reviews, and pair programming
Implementing solutions that impact dozens of applications and every team in our engineering organization
Creating and reviewing design plans for our team and the architecture of the
entire organization
Partnering with engineers from other teams to adopt platform tools and services
About You
You should be efficient in writing Java code (at least 3 years of experience)
You should have experience working with an Infrastructure-as-Code tool like
Chef or Puppet (preferably 2 years of Chef experience)
You should be comfortable with networking fundamentals like firewalls, subnets,and route tables
You understand continuous integration, release, and deployment processes
You are experienced with scrum, issue tracking, source code management, andcontinuous Integration
You have experience with Docker
You are familiar with system monitoring tools such as Nagios, Sensu,
AppDynamics, Wily, or Prometheus
You have experience with logging tools such as Splunk, Logstash, Graylog
